Sunday 19th July will see the start of organised club racing for Yachts and Sportsboats with all classes including PY Dinghies and Juniors back on the water on Wednesday 22nd July.
All racing will be conducted in accordance with Government and RYA COVID-19 guidance, the highlights are detailed below, and the updated Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions will be published on Thursday 16th July.
Entry Fees are being reduced to £60 for everyone except Juniors at £30. Your entry to club racing will get you free entry to our regatta racing (see below for regatta details). Those who have entered already will get a refund on their bar card. If you have not already entered please do so as soon as possible.
Cruisers will be dual scored. SWYTC and IRC – this is to encourage those who do not have an IRC to come and join in for the rest of the year. Please apply for your SWYTC handicap as soon as possible, six boats have already done so. https://www.swytc.org.uk/applications.asp
Maximum of 6 crew on any racing boat
Social Distancing applies on all boats, 1 meter plus mitigation which may include 1m separation marks on decks, wearing face coverings, avoiding face to face contact, cleaning procedures, no shouting etc. It remains the responsibility of skippers and participants to comply.
Maximum Wind Speed 15 knots will apply in light of the social distancing restrictions on boats and ribs, reduction in crew numbers and to minimise the risk of capsizing of dinghies. All racing will be at the discretion of the race officer depending on availability of safety boats, weather, and sea conditions
Volunteers needed to crew Safety Boats – Ribs to be crewed by two persons from a family group or where two persons are willing to operate with social distancing of 1 meter Plus Mitigation. Our ability to run successful dinghy racing will depend upon willing volunteers coming forward.
Please contact Bob Penfold at sailing@rtyc.org if you are willing and able to help.
Race Management – Racing will initially be conducted from Haldon Pier using fixed marks. Safety Ribs will assist in communicating course details to PY Dinghies and Juniors. Mary Gurine will be brought into operation when it is considered safe to do so and comply with social distancing.
Review – plans and activities will remain under constant review taking into account any updated or revised government and RYA guidance.
TORBAY ROYAL REGATTA – Due to limitations of resources especially with regard to mark laying, safety boats and committee boats it has been decided this year to run two separate events. Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August for Yachts and Sportsboats and Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October for PY Dinghies and Juniors. FREE entry if entered for club racing Full details to follow next week.
